The patella replacement is actually two parts. A metal part sits on the front of the femur or thigh bone and the plastic "done" sits on the underside of the patella or "knee cap". The X-rays show the implants in place. Only the joint around the patella is new, the reminder of the knee and cartilage remains natural. This stops the grinding and the pain under the worn out patella.
