One of the most important improvements in total joint arthroplasty is in the management of pain.
Dr. Clyburn's article in the Journal of Arthroplasty was one of the early published reports on new techniques which provide improved pain control, reduced recovery times and lower risks.
We strongly recommend that you consider one of the techniques or "Regional Pain" management the anesthesiologist will discuss with you before your surgery. By controlling your pain locally, the anesthesiologist is able to give you much less general anesthesia which is safer and results in fewer complications and a more rapid recovery. Patient's whose pain is well controlled have fewer difficulties with their recovery.
